His incredible arrival to elite chess was relatively recent, Arjun Erigaisi, is nowadays the 4th best player in India. But it seems he will go even further, now that his latest performance on candidates was exceptional.

This is an incredible player who surely has the strength to play at the top level of chess. And the best part is that he is just 18 years old, it looks like we have a new talent making a name for himself.

Knowing that chess is such an important game in India might give us an idea of why he is so good. He became a chess grandmaster when he was simply 14 years old, which is still amazing, although it doesn’t break any records.

Arjun Erigaisi is one of those players you will love to watch playing, especially because it is incredibly skillful. He is skillful in the means that he knows how to adapt his game to the situation of the board very well.

Apart from that, lately, he has been experimenting with some interesting novelties facing strong grandmasters. The best part of it is that Arjun Erigaisi usually gets away with it!

He has been a great player for many years, but we all know chess is not very commercial. Maybe this is the reason why there wasn’t so much noise about him before now.

But Erigaisi Arjun has been one of the top grandmasters in India almost since forever, compared to Vidit Gujrathi. In the latest tournaments, he has had incredible performance but shocked us this year.

Erigaisi Arjun won the Tata Steel Challengers 2022 tournament, which was a great surprise to a lot of the chess community. It’s like the sleeping giant just woke up and won one of the most important tournaments in the world.

That’s not all, before that he won the Tata Steel Rapid tournament a week before this achievement! It’s awesome, two of the greatest tournaments in within a week, where was Erigaisi Arjun before?

These two successes combined were enough to skyrocket his rating and place Erigaisi among the best 100 players in the world. He finished in the challengers with 10.5 points first on the leaderboard and reached a rating performance of 2903 in one of the games.

He is now the 4th best in the Junior chess top 100 player leaderboard, and it seems he will just keep improving.

Arjun Erigaisi likes positional approaches, as always, he is also good at attacking, but he prefers positional approaches. As you will see in the next two games, Arjun doesn’t think it twice to give up initiative for positional advantages.

Once Arjun Erigaisi obtains a determined advantage, he will not let it go ever.
